Norish Me Now - the Natural Sports Recovery Drink

The Science of Recovery

Recovery Science

Recovery drinks can help this process by providing a mix of protein, carbohydrate (Berardi et al, 2008) and water to replenish muscles. In the last few years many studies agree that post workout supplementation soon after exercise is vital to muscle recovery and training adaptations ... see below

Our new flavour: Mango, Green Tea and Lime

This beautiful, exotic fruit has many health-giving properties, but mainly, it tastes gorgeous. In mango fruit pulp, the antioxidant vitamins A and C, Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), folate, other B vitamins and essential nutrients, such as potassium, copper and amino acids, are present. Mango peel and pulp contain other phytonutrients, such as the pigment antioxidants – carotenoids and polyphenols – and omega-3 and -6 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
like lemon, lime peel has all the benefits that come with citrus peel - they contain phytonutrients, fibre and have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Our other flavours: Blackcurrant, White Tea and Vanilla

Black currants are very rich in many phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, essential fatty acids and minerals. In particular, black currants are renowned for their high content in Vitamin C (a powerful antioxidant), GLA (Gamma-Linoleic Acid, a very rare Omega-6 essential fatty acid) and potassium. They have been shown to have twice the potassium of bananas, four times the vitamin C of oranges, and twice the antioxidants of blueberries. Black currants contain anthocyanins, which are compounds naturally found in berries. They are very potent antioxidants and are responsible for the color of blackcurrants. Anthocyanins inhibit the enzymes Cyclo-oxygenase 1 and 2, and can reduce inflammation in the body. Additionally, the fruit juice of black currant contains proanthocyanidins, anthocyanins and a polysaccharide-rich substance, cassis polysaccharide (CAPS), which has macrophage-stimulating activity
White tea is the least processed form of tea, made of beautiful silver buds and select leaves which have been steamed and dried. Because of its minimal processing, white tea has extremely high amounts of anti-oxidants in the form of catechins or polyphenols. These substances can help the body in fighting the effects of free-radical damage which happens with normal ageing, and physical and emotional stress.
Vanilla is a beautiful spice ... lush, delicious and luxurious.

Cherry, Green Tea and Lemon

Loaded with vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, the luscious cherry has been a tantalising the palates of food lovers for centuries. Studies indicate that compared to other fruit, cherries are full of infection fighting antioxidants and can ease muscle soreness with their potent anti-inflammatory properties
Green tea is an excellent source of antioxidants. Many experts believe that antioxidants can slow down ageing and prevent heart disease, strokes and cancer. Green tea increases exercise endurance. Properties of green tea can help burn fat and reduce carbohydrate utilization, enabling athletes to exercise harder and longer.
The lemon is widely used in medicine due to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in the zest. It is thought that many other nutrients found in the zest contribute towards the extensive health benefits of citrus fruits.

The Sciencey Bit

Anyone who exercises knows it can be hard on the body. We can feel the sore muscles and the tiredness after a hard training session. Sometimes we only realise how hard we worked when we start to exercise again. If you haven’t recovered properly you may not feel able to push yourself or keep going for as long as before. It can be frustrating not to train well if you are targeting a specific event or, like a lot of people, you have limited time to work out and ideally need a quality session each time you train. From the elite athlete to the recreational exerciser, we’re not all that different; we all need to recover.

Recovery drinks can help this process by providing a mix of protein, carbohydrate (Berardi et al, 2008) and water to replenish muscles. In the last few years many studies agree that post workout supplementation soon after exercise is vital to muscle recovery and training adaptations . There is a ‘window of opportunity’ of up to two hours after exercises when muscles will rapidly absorb carbohydrate to resynthesize muscle glycogen and take up amino acids (from protein) to rebuild muscle fibres.

nouriSH me now will supply the right ratio of carbohydrates and protein (about 4:1 carbs:protein) in an easy to drink and easily absorbed form. All you have to do is drink it at the right time! This is around 20-40 minutes after a work-out.

Our recipe ensures you will benefit from quick release carbohydrates to promote a rapid rise in blood sugar – this stimulates insulin release to drive carbohydrate and amino acids into muscle cells. Slow release carbohydrates sustain blood sugar levels. Similarly, the protein from the milk and yoghurt provide quickly digested protein (whey) and slower digested proteins (casein) allowing a rapid yet longer lasting rise in amino acid levels circulating in the body. To add to this there are probiotics, anti-oxidants, minerals and vitamins to support your hard-working body!

You have been nouriSHed!!
